This project was a complete rebuild of an Island resort near Cairns and was built using lightweight construction due to the transport difficulties.
Large timber sections were used to create handmade feature trusses and columns for the main central facility, hours of sanding and preparation were required due to the extreme climactic conditions, this ensured longevity of the material and long term protection.
A large resort pool was also a feature of the island design which including 48 units on three levels, to accommodate guests. A campground and backpackers accommodation was also rebuilt to cater for every budget.
The sensitive nature of the island ecosystem was a large part of the planning and the EPA was always on hand to direct the construction team in protecting the fragile island environment from building works.
